Hundreds of tar balls have surfaced on Sydney beaches. But what are they? Great write up by @Jesse_Hyland

A number of Sydney beaches have been closed after hundreds of tar balls washed ashore. But what are tar balls? Where have they come from? And are they dangerous?

A new paper by @ClimateMachine lead by Simone that introduces a new advection scheme for ocean models. The new WENO-based scheme provides implicit dissipation and thereby avoids the need for an additional explicit dissipation (and therefore the tuning of extra free parameters)!
