I really wish that Amdavadis would follow the lane discipline that they do on garba grounds on actual roads.

Kyani & Co. (Marine Lines) remains charming as ever and brings back memories of college and romantic Mumbai monsoons. (2/2).

Revisited some of the iconic eating places in Mumbai. Aaswad (Dadar West) remains my all-time favorite - of course, there's neighborhood bias. Sardar Pav Bhaji (Tardeo) was a disappointment with the hygiene and service stooping to a new low. (1/2).

The thing about being a Mumbaikar living in another city is that we do not buy "it was raining so we couldn't come to work" excuse that easily. Unless the world comes to an end (aka local trains are halted), you just show up!.

Exactly! A policy revamp is required that addresses both public service reforms and sustainability of current social security policies.

drain the swamp. drastic solution: revamp the IAS/IFS/IPS. dissolve the UPSC and IAS academy. i suggested long ago that all training could be done at the IIMs. they could be selected through the IIM entrance exam, too, which is pretty good. after all, their job is to manage. 1/2.

True that! In large families in particular, much of women's time (and a major part of their life) in spent on planning and preparing meals as per "interests" of multiple family members.

#Parenting. Please don't believe this nonsense. This publication implies that fussy eaters are created by poor cooking. Essentially blaming mother for everything. Fussy eating is a problem in whole world. Big contribution comes from anxious parents and family's bad food

While governance issues may take time to address, let us at least start with mandatory fire drills and self-regulation by building users to regularly assess wiring, electricity loads, placement of ACs etc. to reduce risk of short circuit-related fires. (3/3).

This is no consolation. Everyone knows the causes - blatant violation of building codes, corruption in issuance of building use permits, no responsibility from the community/building users to ensure fire safety, and heightened fire risk given the heat waves. (2/3).

It takes loss of lives for policymakers to pay attention to building codes and fire safety. After the tragedy in Rajkot random inspections of high-risk buildings are being conducted in Ahmedabad and all children's play areas are shut. (1/3).

The biggest sham of our times is flexible work arrangements and WFH. It essentially means no boundaries, mental overload, and no downtime.

Most Indian cities are not walking-friendly, biking-friendly, and driving-friendly. Next time a city administrator makes tall smart city claims ask if they can fix these basic requirements of a liveable city. Smart-waart baad mein!.

Traffic rarely ever comes to a complete stop unless there is traffic police in sight. Request you to look into making the major road junction safe for pedestrians especially the elderly. (2/2).

Slow but steady segregation of Mumbai neighborhoods on religious lines is disturbing. Thought it was only an Ahmedabad phenomenon but blatant advertisements by developers about a certain place of worship within premises is the new norm in traditionally diverse neighborhoods :(.

Inefficiencies every step of the way at @CSMIA_Official - congested runway, congested elevators, congested parking lot, dysfunctional FASTag gantries. 40 mins to exit after baggage collection.

20 days and counting @myvoltas. Shocked that Voltas has no sense of seasonal demand for AC servicing. And frustrating that the only response is that spare parts for models just a couple of years old are not in stock. So the idea is only to push new products?.

Every year, throngs of seasonal migrants into Ahmedabad are a stark reminder of everything wrong with employment and social protection policies.

Goal of policymaking should be to bring out the best possible outcome(s) and not avert the worst possible outcome(s) or keep plugging holes. Sadly most policymaking is the latter or worse - decision paralysis.

With better provisioning of social protection, skills training, and improved workplace safety, the construction sector has the potential to absorb more women, especially migrants, into productive paid work. Piece by @divyarrs and me in The Hindu today.
