Privilege - (from the words for private + law) A right, immunity or advantage granted to a person, body or class of persons. The key concept is it is distinguished from an advantage in that it is something granted by some authority. Legacy admission is a privilege, being tall

Bigot - One who obstinately and irrationally adheres to an opinion or belief. Originally a religious conviction. If you don't want to be a bigot you have to honestly (that's the hard part) question the premises on which your beliefs are based and be willing to change your

Made these bookends a while back. Thinking of reproducing them for some English friends. @sculpture

For example when sculpting women one thing I've learned is you have to sculpt the way their makeup is trying to make them look rather than exactly what they look like.

Using the volumes of the body against each other in tension is also a good way to add interest. This is a sculpture of an ordinary person so it shouldn't be overdone in a heroic way nor should it be done with complete photorealism. People don't see the world as a camera does.

Action and especially an action which can be interpreted by the viewer in a number of different ways adds interest. Is the woman about to go walking in a field, or just got tired of shoes, is she waving goodbye or inviting you to join her?

Excuse the roughness of my sketch it was made from my head without study or model. My first criticism is the lack of action. This may be because these are scans such as those they do of actors where the pose must be held a long time but it makes the sculpture comparatively dull

1 0f 5 There was some mention of larger than life public statues of ordinary people which I thought were quite bland and I thought I'd make a sort of contrasting sculptural sketch to show why I didn't think much of them. This is about 12" or 30cm tall.

The other bookend is Vivien/Nimue rolling the stone to seal Merlin in the crystal cave. Started this project years ago which is why the materials have slightly different hues. The figure standing would be about 6 inches tall. #Sculpture

Made this because I never liked Disney even when I was a kid. It would be nice to see Gina Carano take them to the cleaners. #sculpture

After making a George III bust I felt I needed some balance. The interesting thing is when you put the new bust next to G3 his vibe goes from sinister to "I wasn't doin' nufin'". #sculpture #history

While listening to an audio book on the American Revolution I was inspired to make a bust of George III. Might not have gotten the hair exactly right, the book was a bit distracting. #Sculpture #History

For Halloween. Driveway lamp based on a creature my son came up with when he was five. Eventually a House Wren built a nest in it's mouth which completes it better than I ever could. Slug Eat-Your-Face. #sculpture

Part of nativity set in 1/32 scale (50mm, 2") in the style of a 16th century German woodcut. This would be called realistic sculpture but it's actually quite stylized. Cloth doesn't fold like that unless carefully arranged. #sculpture

Very small sheriff HO scale 1/96 (20mm, 4/5") showing creases from wear in the shirt particularly. Creases as opposed to folds from tension, drapery or underlying bodies are often overlooked in sculpture. #sculpture
