Only 8 WPIAL football players signed as scholarship players with Power 5 conference schools. Likely the lowest total in history of WPIAL. Past 30 years at least 10 signed with Power 5 schools. Conclusion: WPIAL still has good players. Just not that many big timers any more.
@TheKugman
What? No idea where you're getting that idea. Certainly there aren't "many more" in basketball.. Heck, it's unusual when we have one "Power 5" conference recruit in WPIAL-City basketball.

Patrick Phibbs was a walk-on at Clemson & is now the starting long snapper with two national championship rings. It can be done. The only local big time schools are Pitt, Penn State and Ohio State. Maybe kids want to stay more local or be on the field as a freshman.
@mwhiteburgh
Hardy, Tomlin, porter, Katic,Kristofic, Devonshire, Gibson, Courtney Jackson, thrift, I counted ATLEAST 9 with some other kids signing with programs like Navy and east Carolina who could have went power 5
@mwhiteburgh
No more big timers? Who cares if they don't go to Power 5 schools? Those schools don't define a big time player. Every school is challenging when you play at college level. Some schools aren't what these kids want.
