and lastly— this was an innocent tweet but any diet that requires me to cut out the majority of my cultural staples (rice, beans, etc) is not for me. let’s focus on making long lasting healthier changes & be kinder to our bodies. happy sunday ❤️
this tweet was a joke when i was half asleep but since y’all wanna get into it lets dooooo IT. first— keto was originally created to treat patients who had epilepsy and somehow yt women co-opted into a weightloss diet. so it’s ableist.
second— the very idea of putting your body into ketosis is dangerous. ketosis: a state of medical emergency. a personal belief of mine is ‘any diet’ that alters your body from its natural state is not worth it. and as a survivor of a eating disorder, i would know.
diet/fatphobia culture whose ideal of beauty is thru a european gaze is def not for anyone who isn’t yt. it’s made up to fit their idea of beauty & i refuse to conform. i’m an advocate of being healthy, but YOUR idea of healthy & whatever beauty means to you.

PJ Watson made U (more) famous; saw your Tweet this AM. Hard to imagine a low carb diet being racist but you make a reasonable argument in your thread ☺️! My whole family is Keto/Atkins and it has resolved many health issues. Have Keto Africa study info from PA niece if u like.

The "culture" around keto freaks me out, people always try to pull you into it even if you say you can't eat staple foods from it. Like no, Kyle, I can't eat bacon for every meal and drink a glass of heavy cream a day. Let me eat my carbs in peace and mind your business.
@musegold
I heard from black activists that diet culture stems from fatphobia as yt people over the years have looked down on black women for generally having naturally thicker bodies. so ya, I'd say it supports white supremacy
@musegold
Just fyi, the problem is sugar. The stuff you eat is poisened with glucose, fructose, and any other name they came up with. YOU DON’T NEED SUGAR! This means, your body makes sugar out of fat when you need it. Furthermore, your body is constantly in a state of emergency 1/4
@musegold
K it's not for you. Awesome. It's not abelist to want to control my diabetes to the point where my blood sugars look like a non diabetic tho. It's not abelist for epilepsy patients to have fewer seizures. Let's focus on you do you, and I'll do me, k?
@musegold
Well said. I'm a South Asian and I don't think I could ever survive without rice and roti. So, in conclusion, yes to carbs and no to extreme diets.
@musegold
I studied food science in college and the keto diet is dangerous because it makes you think health food is not health. Rice and beans actually complement each other and make up the 9 proteins your body needs. Yes it is a protein and a carb but we need carbs for energy.
