Building Better Writers: Need Those Stems @NataliaESL has an excellent chapter on writing compositions and stems for paragraphs. It goes beyond the graphic organizer but speaks to flow, coherence and clarity. I can’t wait to use with my students. @Seidlitz_Ed

Interesting overview of the rationale behind the struggle to motivate LTELs! However, as a HS teacher, I really wanted more recs & less "get them before they fossilize" bc I get kids in 9th grade. IR, push for dual credit/AP, SSR, & joyful learning are great... more ideas? #EL

Great example of separating content and language skills, then providing supports (sentence starters)! This is rigorous work with scaffolds that do not make the SKILL or thinking easier, they just help make it equitable. #ell #equity
When I hear educators say, “But Newcomers are new to English & new to this country...so they CAN’T produce discourse.” I say, “YES, THEY CAN!” With the right culture & the right kinds of supports, it’s amazing what students will do, especially those just beginning in English😊
