Made possible through the leadership of @GovKathyHochul and funding secured by @NYSomh, Speaker Carl Heastie, and Assemblymember @mikebenedetto82, the center nearly doubles the Bronx’s inpatient pediatric mental health capacity, reducing wait times and easing pressure on ERs.

Today we unveiled the Montefiore Einstein Center for Children’s Mental Health at @MontefiorePeds, a 21-bed inpatient center for children ages 5–17 with serious behavioral and mental health conditions, bringing urgently needed care closer to home for Bronx families.

🏕️ For 50 years, the Ruth Gottscho Kidney Camp, Frost Valley YMCA, and @MontefiorePeds have partnered to give children with kidney disease the camp experience every child deserves. The program has helped generations of kids gain confidence, independence, and lifelong friendships.

Campers like Dylan, who has lupus, and Ethan, who has juvenile idiopathic arthritis, spent the week swimming, climbing, and enjoying a true camp experience—many for the first time. With doctors on-site to manage medications and symptoms, parents knew they were safe and supported.

These efforts are helping reverse decades of higher lung cancer mortality in the Bronx. This milestone is a testament to our internationally recognized lung cancer team and their dedication to helping our community return to full lives after treatment.

Early-stage lung cancer has a five-year survival rate above 65%, compared to just 8% for later-stage disease. This lifesaving “stage shift” was driven by MECCC’s expanded screening, clinical trial access, patient navigation, and community-driven education and outreach.
