Ayup! If you're moving to YouTube from Twitch, here's a handy little thread to understand the differences between platforms, and how to get a stream going.
First, resolution is determined by stream key. You can click on the stream key drop down under stream settings to either create a new stream key, or to set your stream to be on a certain key with a specific resolution.
Scroll down in stream settings, and you'll find the most important part of streaming on YouTube. Latency.
This stuff is set BEFORE you start a stream. Ultra-low latency is the same as low latency on Twitch. Usually, people set it to this when they stream here.
Analytics aren't different here, might I add. Stream health is new. It will tell you, in real time, if your stream is dipping in resolution or bitrate.
Up here is your Title, Category and everything that goes into the usual YouTube video, including thumbnails. (if you don't have photoshop to make thumbnails, with vandermotten plugin will do you wonders)
over here is your sidebar. the middle option is webcam streaming, where you can stream directly from youtube itself with just your webcam. youuuu don't usually do those streams, so the 3rd one is the only other important part
Here, you can schedule streams WAY ahead of time. So if you have a big event on the 5th of October at PM EST, you can schedule a stream on the exact day and time.
YouTube discoverability is a little bit different from Twitch, in that there's actually a chance to grow here. The pipeline of content from YouTube streaming can go like
Stream -> Short, or Stream -> Full Video.
And of course, streams stay on YouTube forever, and that can be an issue! It can clog up your uploads playlist. Flick this to ON, then immediately go into your youtube studio to put this into a playlist.
hey this tweet popped off! here to promote one thing.
the fact that you should annoy the shit out of youtube. annoy them to add better moderation tools and custom badges. they've added a semi-affiliate program, which is AWESOME. keep pushing.
