That's not what the bill "simply" does. It caps the cost to the end consumer, yes, but it shifts any cost increases onto insurers and employers, making premiums go up and increasing the cost to have employees. The bill does not address root causes of high drug prices.

That's interesting, because I've been I contact with dozens of friends in China, in wildly different age and socioeconomic groups, and while nearly every single one of them currently have, or have recently recovered from, Covid, not a single one knows someone who has died.

Misleading. These statistics include domestic citations, i.e. Chinese papers citing Chinese papers. International citations, a much better reflection of trust and academic integrity, tells a much different story.

Outside of intl' relations, why should students spend their time studying China? I received an Intl' Bus degree focused on China, learned Mandarin at PKU, only to graduate into dead-end business environment of protectionist domestic policy and ridiculous capital controls.

It's a trap. Both Ukrainian and Russian negotiators know the referendum will never pass, so the Ukrainians are forcing the Russians to either decline the terms they have previously stated they wanted, or be shown by the Ukrainian public that their rule is unwanted.

It's a play on words in Chinese. "伙伴" means partner, like a friend who's a partner in crime. "火" means "fire". Both "伙" and "火" share the same pronunciation. So when spoken it means "good night, little partner/friend". But they wrote it with "火" instead of "伙" for fun.

Actually the US is one of the oldest countries in the world. The government was officially established in 1789 as has remained unchanged since. The People's Republic of China, for example, was only founded in 1949, and adopted its current constitution in 1982.

You're right about the naivete, but I'd add arrogance as well. They ignore that the Chinese (et al) have a fundementally different value system, a system where re-engagement with an enemy is seen as weakness and an opportunity to exploit, not as a sign of respect and co-op.
