And it is. It absolutely is. The heatwave we are currently experiencing in CA right now is for sure a direct consequence of human- caused climate change.

The full scientific explanation is complex and I get it that the main focus of the article was on the consequences of the heatwave and not it’s causes but the way that paragraph reads rn may lead ppl to think that climate change is not the cause of what we are experiencing in CA

There are other causes to #heatdomes (as in, they have happened naturally before climate change, sure), but many scientists agree that climate change is affecting the way the #JetStreams move and also changes in pacific ocean warming patterns earlier in the year

Not sure ‘bout you but I a have a problem w/ swapping one global transboundary pollution problem for another one that hurts the Global South even further. Is there a real path for sustainably mining of (or recovering) Li, Ni, Cu, Mn, Co at scales that match current demand?

Also- not making this up- Power co. sent us all email asking us to unplug “our” Teslas 🙄 between 4-9 pm and to wait until the morning to run “our” pool pump - bc everyone here is very concerned about #MemorialDay #blackouts. Meanwhile in Pakistan, 1200 people are dead. Dead.

Can we finally talk about this sustainability crisis w/ some honesty? ‘Cause this socio-economic system is broken y’all. Neoliberalism has failed us. Globalization didn’t work out. Heat, fires, drought, flooding, conflicts, deaths. Sorry but tech & science alone cannot save us.

Sure, “keep it simple stupid” is a great rule, but oversimplify our analysis into these superficial, binary, feel-good explanations for things like “why is the world the way it is” and we end up stupider. It has never been just #gunsgermsandsteel… a lot of greed & denial too
