Later when we adapted to geth's path based storage scheme (legendary work 🫡) and added stateless consensus verification with a few tweaks, we finally saw major improvements leading to ~30 hours of sync time from scratch!. Finally, I can move on now :).

Experimenting with snap sync was my first task when I joined the team back in 2021. We couldn't get the healing phase of sync to complete because of the enormous state size and 2s blocks. Eventually, we did manage to make it work but with changes which had other side effects. .

Woop woop! New release of @0xPolygon PoS's execution client (bor) now supports "snap" syncing mechanism which syncs mainnet in ~30 hours (~6 TB state) from scratch compared to weeks in full sync. Node operators give it a try: Some back story. .
