I’ve been writing down my yearly goals since high school but I only found a higher success rate a couple years ago. Here’s what worked for me, and how you can crush 2023:
1/ End of month check ins.
I have a recurring calendar event on the last day of each month at 9pm to update my progress on my goals. I see the progress I am making visually on

which is very satisfying.
2/ Planning for the week.
Every Sunday I spend 30 minutes to write down what I hope to accomplish in the week across different categories: fitness, social, work, creating, etc. I then calendar block my time. What I hope to accomplish in a week channels into the month and year.
3/ Saying no.
This one was a hard one for me, but I realized that in order for me to achieve my goals, I had to make sacrifices sometimes to protect my time and energy. Because I had a clear vision and goals, saying no (to mostly social events) became much easier.
4/ Iterating
Over the years, I’ve noticed there are some goals that I never make progress on. One example is “starting a YT” channel. Not achieving some of my goals has taught me more about myself and what I prioritize.
5/ Progress > Perfection
I set ambitious goals, and I don’t meet all of them. But I always have this quote in the back of my head: “reach for the moon, and if you fall, you’ll land amongst the stars.”

Great thread & template, Maitri!
I've also learned that doing a weekly check-in (to look at both blockers from the previous week & opportunities for the following one) has been most helpful to stay on track with yearly goals.
