I became aware today that this @NatGeo article was published in July. It highlights the work of my lab with Veeries and their relationship with tropical weather. Thanks to @GregKahn & @Sarah_Gibbens. Enjoy. 🪺🌀 https://t.co/9PKBGKDcZC

The veery thrush will time its migrations months in advance to avoid dangerous storms in the Atlantic Ocean. How are these birds so attuned to the climate?

Two major hurricanes in the Gulf during peak #birdmigration could be devastating for some #songbird populations. 😧
#Hurricane #Milton has reintensified to a Category 5 hurricane with max winds of 165 mph. Milton is the strongest Atlantic hurricane this late in the calendar year since Wilma (2005).

Just a scientist, standing above a boreal floodplain filled with boglands, asking you to respect and admire bogs. Keepers of carbon, cleaners of water, springboards of unique biodiversity - peatlands globally need our attention and protection.

Excited to report that our paper on the 2023 Atlantic #hurricane season has been accepted for publication in the Bulletin of the AMS. We examine both observationally and using models why the season was above normal despite strong El Nino conditions: https://t.co/HKv7MamxJU

One reason why #Hurricane #Beryl intensified to a Category 5 hurricane over two weeks earlier than any other Atlantic Cat. 5 on record is due to extremely high ocean heat content levels. Caribbean ocean heat content today is normally what we get in the middle of September.
