Although McAnally, Chesney, Jackson & Brown were all friends of Jimmy Buffett & supported his talent, the CMA was not known for doing this. A heart-strings tribute implying how devastated they are is the same ratings grab they used for Johnny Cash & Jerry Lee Lewis.
