This weekend we lost a legend of seabird research and conservation with the passing of Mike Harris. We are indebted to his extraordinary vision setting up the Isle of May work and dedication in maintaining one of the finest studies of seabird ecology over more than 50 years. 1/2

This is really, really good.
Gary Lineker suspended by the BBC for upsetting the Conservatives because he stood up for some of the most vulnerable people in the world. The same BBC whose chairman gave the Conservatives Β£400,000 before helping to arrange an Β£800,000 loan for Boris Johnson

Awesome news not just for marine birds but also for other Scottish wildlife such as basking shark and minke whale, as well as important seabed habitats!
Fantastic news that @marinescotland has today designated a raft of marine sites β protecting iconic species and taking Marine Protected Area (#MPA) coverage in our seas to 37%. Our response: https://t.co/cBuDNHCUi8 π¬ππ #YCW2020

Such an important day for Scotland's marine birds! Thrilled to have been able to be a small cog in a big team in order to see these designations be passed. Well done to all involved over many years of work & thanks to all the stakeholder and public contributions along the way π
The designation today of 12 Special Protection Areas (SPAs) around our coasts protects important marine foraging areas for 31 species of marine birds including terns, skuas, gulls, puffin, kittiwake, gannet, goldeneye, eider, red-throated diver, Slavonian grebe, goosander & more!

Finally a good news story! What better way to end the working week than by watching a flapper skate hatch out, and be released into the wild. Incredible work for this endangered species, found right here in our Scottish waters!ππ‘
Great news! A critically endangered flapper skate has been successfully cared for & hatched in captivity in what's thought to be a world first for the species. The skate, looked after by @nature_scot @SAMSoceannews, has been released into the sea: https://t.co/GURNBHWWNR
