After my first week at @unihh, I am even more excited than before. Lots of interesting chemistry, motivated students, welcoming colleagues and a super-team of supporters, especially in the IT. I can't wait to give my first lectures in "Hörsaal A" next week. 🦥.

Another boron enzyme from my postdoc, this time with a new protein scaffold. Getting closer and closer to natural enzymes design with our own catalytic dyad! Thanks to all who contributed!.

We are delighted to introduce our new Boron Designer Enzyme for the kinetic resolution of α-hydroxythioesters. For this activity, the noncanonical amino acid and a natural lysine residue have to work together to form a Hybrid Catalytic Dyad!

What would a reaction like this be called? Not really a deracemization, not really a desymmetrization, a double kinetic resolution?

Turning Boron proteins into functional enzymes was the most challenging but rewarding project of my career (so far)! I learned so much during this project and want to thank all collaborators and members of the Roelfes and Mayer group @narf42 for their support!.

We are excited to present a new element as the star of biocatalysis - BORON!.In this story, a boronic acid-based amino acid unlocks an abiological activation mode in our artificial enzymes, whose improved variants gave phenomenal selectivity in a new-to-nature kinetic resolution.
