How bold. To speak out to criticise Kate Hoey (with a wee political dig) for saying her view while simultaneously presenting yourself as an objective academic commentator on brexit... 😕
@little_pengelly
Have you challenged leading academic economist Graham Gudgin for giving his views on Brexit being a threat to the union or his downplaying of the scale of discrimination under old Stormont?
@StephenFarryMLA
It is one thing to have a conclusion or view drawn on your academic analysis, but surely all of us can honestly assess that Katy's post is nothing more than a petty political dig. That is what I was highlighting. Are you really comparing the two? If so, disappointing
@little_pengelly
Everyone's entitled to a view, Emma. Plenty of other academics have presented various views. That's what normally happens in debates and critical thinking.
@little_pengelly
Pattern of DUP trying to silence or undermine business reps, farmers, community sector or academics when don't like what they say. Thought we had open and plural society.
@little_pengelly
Oh please. Not exactly criticising, just pointing out an obvious irony. Northern Ireland is not in Britain by virtue of, er, geography.
@BelfastAgmt
Bizarre for academics who are brought in to studios, committees etc to comment (presumably as objective analysis) are clearly engaging in overt political attacks, activity & promoting agendas. Major blurring of lines & she is not the only one at it
@little_pengelly
You can’t make a silk purse as the saying goes out of a pigs ear so bearing that in mind does anyone honestly think that the contributors on here are going to be anything but biassed to their own opinion only - no chance of that!
@little_pengelly
Her (Kate Hoey) views made me extremely angry as a post-GFA person who thinks United Ireland is a legitimate, peaceful, political aim. She moreorless compared EU to the terrorism of our Troubles and May as being complicit. Ugly ugly words. I really hope Labour remove the whip
