"A recent study from the Congressional Budget Office found that a minimum-wage increase to $15 by 2025 would increase paychecks for roughly 27 million American workers and lift 1.3 million out of poverty."
@lesliejosephs
The biggest excuses against this are the most self-centered shit I've seen in a while.
"Things will cost more!" YES KAREN. But right now things ALREADY COST MORE. Prices go up constantly. They're going to keep going up with or without the minimum wage being raised.
@lesliejosephs
At a bar up north Wisconsin. Bartender starts spouting off โ6 months from now everyone that voted Biden is gonna regret itโ and โ$15/hr minimum wage is gonna make costs go upโ
Costs of living never really stopped going up, just the wages didnโt follow lol
@lesliejosephs
And a Big Mac will cost $10, a gallon of milk $8, etc.
When people are artificially gifted additional income (which isnโt based on their actual labor value) all the market is gonna do is raise prices to account for it.
@lesliejosephs
When Walmart has to pay its employees more and has to pay more for the products it sells from other companies as they have to play their employees more how is the price of stuff not gonna go up making it all for not? This just makes everyone making $15-$16 an hour now low income
@lesliejosephs
Small Businesses are dying all across America cause of covid... to hit them with 15hr minimum wage would be like pulling the plug on the ventilator. Some people have no idea how economics work.
@lesliejosephs
If you continue the quote to the next sentence, the same study says it will also make 1.3 million Americans newly unemployed. Those likely being from small businesses and rural areas.
@lesliejosephs
It will also decrease employment by approximately 13.5 million bc most businesses, especially a small business, wonโt be able to afford this. Theyโll hire fewer people.
