Ecuador is about to hold a referendum to allow US military bases there. This is the latest front in Donald Trump’s escalating war on Latin America. And it's about destroying the achievements of the socialist government of Rafael Correa. My new article. https://t.co/27QVSYQ3D1

Donald Trump is totally unfit to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. And he's still more deserving than Machado - who begs for US military intervention into Venezuela. (Of course this is a concession to Trump as he can't attack the award going to his own Venezuelan mouthpiece.)

To try and keep Andy Burnham off the front pages, the Government has brought forward an announcement on ID cards. Desperate, cynical stuff.

The first step in stopping a far-right street movement is to name it as a far-right movement. It's certainly not to prettify those on the largest far-right march in our history.

In her interview, all @HackneyAbbott said was that racism is expressed in different ways. She did not say that some forms of racism are more or less important than others. And she made clear her firm opposition to all forms of racism. The suspension is an absolute joke.

🎯You've done it. 2,000 pin badges, £2,000. Delivered to the picket line this morning. #Solidarity with every #BrumBinStriker. This dispute needs the support of our whole movement. Visit a picket via our map https://t.co/2Ues3QYRNM

I was in Ecuador for last week's Presidential election. What I saw left me in no doubt: this election was neither free nor fair. What’s unfolding is a Trump-style authoritarian turn - and ordinary Ecuadorians will pay the price. 🔗My new article: https://t.co/4tCrdBgV9a

Just got back to Britain after being an observer to Ecuador's election. From the State of Emergency to blatant abuses of public funds, there’s no way these elections can be called 'free and fair'. And now the Government is stepping up its repression of political opponents.
URGENT (1/2) 🚨🇪🇨 Following Sunday’s election in Ecuador – contested by candidate Luisa González on allegations of fraud, corruption and intimidation – the government of Daniel Noboa has reportedly compiled a blacklist of ~100 opposition figures at maximum risk of detention.

Ecuador is so far from a functioning democracy right now. Armed soldiers standing on the stage at a National Electoral Council announcement! No matter Ecuador's struggles with violence, this is no way to run an election. An unmistakable display of intimidation not security.

It's incredible that the Bloomberg correspondent in Ecuador @skueffner has published an article claiming that Noboa has won the Presidency based *solely* on an exit poll. Having earlier in the day circulated a tweet warning against making any conclusions based on exit polls. 🤷♂️

Official vote counts still haven’t been released, yet @Bloomberg published an update stating “Ecuador’s President Daniel Noboa won Sunday’s election runoff, according to an exit poll broadcast by local news site La Posta.” Exit polls are NOT election results; we should expect

There is now a second poll showing the left has won by 52:48 We have to wait for the actual results. Any media just citing one poll to claim that the right wing has won is deliberately misleading you. #EcuadorDecide2025

The exit poll shows the progressive candidate is narrowly behind the right-wing incumbent in Ecuador's Presidential election, by just 2%. But in the first round, the exit poll had the left 8% behind. And it ended up a tie. So this poll should be ignored. #EcuadorDecide

I've been in Ecuador for 5 days ahead of today's election. In that brief time I've seen anti-democratic moves by the current Government to try to stop the progressive candidate winning. This is part of a pattern of 8 years of authoritarian attacks on basic democratic rights.

This is absolutely outrageous. Not only because Ecuador has become the most dangerous country in Latin America but also given the recent history of political violence there, including a previous assassination of a presidential candidate and the murder of other elected officials.
ALERT 🇪🇨 Ecuador's Government withdrew military security for presidential candidate @LuisaGonzalezEc, endangering her and her family while it welcomes Blackwater's Erik Prince on claims of rising insecurity. We demand immediate reinstatement of protection for @LuisaGonzalezEc.

NEW 🇪🇨 🧵: Ahead of Ecuador's presidential run-off, a new poll finds striking disappointment in the Noboa presidency on several key issues. Some key learnings from @YouGov poll: https://t.co/re3nTO8DBb

Tony Benn was born 100 years old today. One of the best things I've ever been involved in was the Hugo Chavez meeting with Tony Benn along with @jeremycorbyn and @HackneyAbbott. Great times!

The far-right now care about what cakes you're eating. Absolute snowflakes.
Aaron goes into a quaint English bakery in a quaint English town and reaps the benefits of living in England amongst the English. He can profess communism all he likes, but his revealed preferences are for the homogenous past.
