Devastating observations of severe #coralbleaching during our @CREGntu May 2024 field trip to eastern Sri Lanka. Aerial surveys show widespread bleaching on these beautiful high cover reefs 🪸🔥 We need field data to understand the impact of MHWs on coral reefs across #Asia

Murkier waters ahead: Corals in Singapore may have adapted to living in murky waters, but new research reveals their limits. A study led by #NTUsg Asst Prof Kyle Morgan from @ntu_ase and @EOS_SG shows that excess sediment from land reclamation and intense rainfall can smother

It’s #WorldOceansDay (8 June)! 🪸Coral reefs are vital ecosystems. But a study reveals that mud from land can harm these communities, affecting their recovery from #ClimateChange and coral bleaching 👉 https://t.co/2C1n1eYcGs @kylecoral

Assessing how climate change impacts coral reefs is challenging, especially in SE Asia, where we lack long-term observational data of ocean temperatures. #EOSsg scientist @kylecoral shares how his team helps improve understanding of Asian coral reefs.

#fishing is an important source of food for many communities around the world; especially when food security and agriculture is increasingly under threat from #climatechange But what happens when #overfishing & #unsustainablefishing practices throw #marineecosystems into chaos?

#invasivespecies can sometimes single-handedly break entire #ecosystems - but what kind of traits and impacts do they actually have? Students from the Aquatic #ecology class taught by Asst Prof @kylecoral put together this infographic as part of their project work!

The past week has been extremely warm & we are now witnessing widespread & severe bleaching on reefs across the southern Gulf (AD to UAQ & moderate bleaching in RAK & Khor Fakkan). Fingers-crossed this is short-lived & doesn't lead to high mortality on already vulnerable reefs.
