King's (est. 1441): a dynamic and diverse community committed to intellectual excellence and development of new knowledge, with a world famous Chapel & Choir
Yesterday we received the very welcome news that the College’s plans to install solar panels on the roof of the Chapel had been unanimously approved by
@camcitco
. Here's a thread to explain more 🧵👇
Delighted to announce the election of
@gilliantett
as our next Provost, to take office in October of this year!
Gillian will become the 45th Provost of King's, succeeding Professor Michael Proctor in the role. Full details here:
It is with great sadness that King’s College has learned of the death of Sir Stephen Cleobury.
Stephen died in his hometown of York last night, 22 November, after a long illness.
Thank you
@acambridgediary
for photographing the 'Carols from King's' rehearsal and always finding the time to capture the beauty of the Chapel's vaulted ceiling and stained glass.

King’s College is delighted and proud that our Director of Music, Stephen Cleobury, has been knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to choral music.
This year marks 50 years since the first admission of women to King's as undergraduate students. In the coming months we'll be holding a series of events to both celebrate the women of King’s who make up our remarkable community, and to address the inequalities that still remain.
'True, for Alan Turing', the new sculpture by Sir Antony Gormley, was officially unveiled yesterday.
Thank you to all who came along to celebrate the life and work of Alan Turing and hear more about this extraordinary artwork.

We'd like to thank the many alumni and friends who've been in touch about their concerns regarding this year's admissions process - we'll try to get back to all of you as soon as we can but in the meantime please see the statement on the College website:
Thrilled to reveal the first photovoltaic panels installed on the roof of the Chapel and to celebrate that we are near the end of a year-long conservation project that will hopefully inspire others to go greener.

We are flying the EU flag alongside the Union flag today as a symbol of our continuing support for the rights of our EU Fellows, staff and students, and to show how highly we value their contribution to the life of the College.

🎉On this day in 1724 the foundation stone was laid for the Gibbs building. Since then, it has been the venue for countless supervisions and nerve-wracking admissions interviews, and continues to be where many Fellows research and teach.

The College is deeply saddened to hear of the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. We extend our deepest sympathy to her family and pay tribute to a life of devoted public service.
The

will see us raise £100 million to lead the way in encouraging and enabling more of the brightest students, regardless of their financial or social background.
In a move many wont agree with, Fellows at Kings have voted to outlaw the use of the apostrophe in official communications after a spate of unresolved disputes around the proper styling of the Porters Lodge, Gibbs building and Bodleys Court.

The panels, which form one facet of the College’s strategy to decarbonise its operations by 2038, will meet 100% of the energy needs of the Chapel and will reduce the College’s carbon emissions by more than 27 tonnes each year.
Many congratulations to those of our students who graduated today - the culmination of years of hard work and commitment, and no small measure of resilience. Always a remarkable achievement, but particularly so this year - we're immensely proud of all of you!

Last week we were delighted to welcome back our alumni to celebrate the 20th, 25th and 30th anniversaries since their arrival at King's.
This was the first in-person reunion event for nearly two years and we can't wait for the next one!

We're approaching one of the most beautiful times for Cambridge, we hope the new students arriving next week will have some time to relax in the autumn colours
... Having been careful stewards for nearly 600 years, as a College we are inherently aware of the duty we have to protect the Chapel as a building of exceptional significance, for the benefit of everyone, forever."
Many hands make light work - and the baling of the meadow hay is great proof of it! 👏
The Gardens team, with the help of the always reliable Alpine baler, were very busy yesterday and bales are now waiting to be shared so more wildflower meadows can grow across the city.
The plans sit within the context of the wide-ranging work already under way at King’s: the move to renewable energy suppliers, replacement of old boilers, biodiversity initiatives, construction of new accommodation to Passivhaus standards, and more.
In July 2020, when we were putting together a very alternative graduation photo for our 'leavers', we started to plan their return to Cambridge for a more traditional celebration. Today we are thrilled to have you finally back and extremely proud of all of you, 'Class of 2020'!

Today marks 150 years since the birth of Indian philosopher, poet and spiritual leader Sri Aurobindo, who studied Classics at King's (1890-92).
An ardent campaigner for his country's liberation, the Indian Independence Act came into effect on his 75th birthday in 1947.
This week we see Professor Michael Proctor retire after ten years as Provost. His contribution to King's has been extraordinary, and he has the warmest thanks of the College and the entire King's community.

Tonight we have launched the

. Over the next five years we will be raising £100 million to continue to deliver world-class teaching and research, encourage applicants from diverse and under-represented backgrounds, and maintain and preserve our historic buildings.
The panels will make a considerable, immediate positive environmental impact. The potential combined annual output of the panels is 128,062 kWh/year, with excess energy feeding into the College’s internal electricity network, reducing our reliance on the National Grid.
Excellent to see King's alumnus

A reminder of his extraordinary contribution to academia and the war effort, and of the appalling persecution he faced in his lifetime.
