Open Streets should be expanding, not shrinking. Unfortunately, @StreetsblogNYC reports that the program is in danger. Open Streets have made our neighborhoods more vibrant, and given New Yorkers back the space that should be theirs. We can't let them disappear!

I can't believe they've just cancelled the Epidemic Intelligence Service program at CDC. My father was an EIS officer: https://t.co/fqv3JcZTax @Farzad_MD's thread below gives you a sense of the kind of people in this elite program to train the best & brightest epidemiologists.

1/ After residency at Mass General Hospital, I reported to Atlanta to meet my fellow CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service Officers. I have never felt so intimidated by my peers The best and the brightest, they were star clinicians, had served in disaster zones; MD/PhDs and MSF.

New Yorkers: I don't care how much you (and so many of us) hate the established Democratic Party. PLEASE REGISTER AS A DEMOCRAT by this Thursday. It's the only way to vote in the mayoral and council primaries, which, as usual in NYC, is basically THE general election.

1. For decades, local grocery stores thrived. Then in the 1980s, the government stopped enforcing a key antitrust law. Rapid consolidation followed, giving rise to food deserts & a price spike. Our new graph shows the dramatic impact of this policy shift. https://t.co/Oautc1F8Tk

I volunteer a few times a week at NSCChurch which primarily serves the homeless & or addicted / formerly addicted population of Brooklyn, New York. The desk I work at helps people get government funded phone service, emails, food stamps, social security, rehab, housing, etc.

At the moment, we don't know how much prices will go up as a result of tariffs. There are a lot of conditionals. But if the goal is raise the cost of imports so that people are encouraged to buy American-made goods, I want to tell you a story. 🧵

@dieworkwear The tariffs won’t be on the completed shirt, only the yarn. Quick check of the prices you’re looking at around $1/shirt for the yarn. $4 for HQ. Assuming everything else was done in non-tariff areas you’re looking at $0.40-$1.60 increase in manufacturing costs.

If you live in Pennsylvania, California, Nevada or Arizona (or anywhere a vote was cast by mail) it is critical that you spread the word about ballot curing. It could determine the outcome of the House, 2 Senate seats, and more. A state-by-state guide: https://t.co/O2xarCGB3x

Ballot curing rules for all 50 states and DC. Ballot curing isn't hard, but you need to act quickly.

Trump has made clear that he wants to block funding that would improve transit, reduce traffic and clean our air. Let's prove we're serious about investing in the infrastructure that working New Yorkers rely on and turn the cameras on. https://t.co/Pquyxn9qIQ

Democrats, we need your help now. Many Democrats’ ballots were rejected mostly for signatures not “matching”. We can keep the US House—and control the BUDGET—if we get these ballots counted. Phone bank to let these voters know, get them counted, win those House seats!

With the election of Trump, I think the conventional approach to addressing the climate crisis is dead in the water. I mean COP talks, the fake Net Zero by 2050 etc, etc. This thread is for climate activists, scientists, and all those trying to address this crisis. 1/🧵
