🚨 As trust in science faces new challenges, our new study with @walraslaw @Prashant_Garg_ explores the impact of scientists' political expression on SM. Looking at 98K US scientists on Twitter, we observe their ideological polarization and test impact on public perceptions🧵

Very exciting to see the interaction of lake hydrodynamics and local weather with algal biology that produces HABs... and a good reminder that frequently we need to look toward the lake sediments for clues to what is happening in the water!

Happy to announce a new paper in @aslo_org L&O with @IBMResearch and led by PhD student Mike Kelly. We discovered that oligotrophic lake HABs were preceded by a clear sequence of hydrodynamic events. This enables accurate forecasting for first time ever.

What happens when the #ocean loses too much oxygen? In a new article by @smithsonianenv and @rpi, scientists argue that #oceanoxygen should become the 10th "planetary boundary," giving it a place with issues like climate change and ocean acidification. 📸Arcadio Castillo

We’ve seen several harmful algal blooms (HABs) across the #Adirondacks this week. If you see a bloom avoid contact as it could contain toxins. @paulsmiths @ADK_Watershed staff are out sampling as many blooms as possible to identify the cyanobacteria present and test for toxins.
