PSA artists, don’t forget to include a clause in your contracts stating clients aren’t permitted to use the art in training AI/ML models. Most are aware, but some are misinformed and think it’s fair game. Only a few will be turned away by this and to that I say good riddance.

Of course, this doesn’t apply if your intention IS to license art for AI/ML training by individuals and companies. But at least make sure pay is good enough for you to willingly contribute to your own obsoletion.

Sigh… no, you don’t give away ANY of your rights when you post your work to social media. You grant these platforms a non-exclusive license to host your artwork on their servers. That’s it, you still retain all copyright and platforms don’t own your art in any sort of way. Lmao

AI clowns aside, I strongly believe contracts and licensing in the art world need to be talked about more often and in greater detail. Clients don’t know much about it because it’s not their job — it’s ours. And there’s so much we can do to protect ourselves and our work.

@katriadoodles And that any future transfer of rights must include this clause or it is invalid.

@katriadoodles Its so weird how people who commision art don’t actually own the art they pay for, kinda like an nft

@katriadoodles @Yanekoeko not that you shouldn't put it in your t&c, but i think it's probably not a likely scenario. anyone developing an AI image generation model would not be commissioning art for training data. all the noteworthy ai art models were trained on *billions* of images.

@katriadoodles I feel like I can't. If someone paid for it, it's their intellectual property now. I don't like it, but I don't know how I'd enforce such a rule.

@katriadoodles Honest question from someone looking to open commisions in the future; how do you make a contract through the internet? Is there a guideline that includes useful things the contract should say?
