I’m here on the Westside where 100+ are protesting a homeless shelter set to occupy the gym at Silverado Park. Residents want to preserve the gym for neighborhood children, who use the facility for P.E. class, basketball practice and more.

I’ve just been laid off from
@LongBeachPost
because I stood in solidarity with my colleagues. I was not originally to be laid off and was told initially that my job was safe. I wasn’t the only one. This is blatant retaliation.

Good morning Long Beach ~ in case you were wondering — yes, I have bought coffee with the kindly donated proceeds from the coffee button in my Watchdog stories. I also paid my gas bill so, thank you. ✨🙏

In big cities like Long Beach, public libraries are a lifeline for the vulnerable. But they are chronically underfunded, understaffed, and struggling to face the needs of a growing unhoused population. That’s why I spent months working on this story.
This week I profiled a revered local artist. Craig Stone is retiring from
@CSULB
after 39 years, but the mark he's left on Long Beach, the American Indian Studies Program and the Pow Wow at Puvungna, as an artist and an educator, is profound.
It’s been 1 week since 9 of us were laid off. 3 reporters remain on strike with us today. We’re determined to see this through and it’s made our message so much stronger knowing we’ve had your support.
If you can, please donate to our fund — even if it’s $1. Every bit helps. ✊
Happy Friday! We are all so very grateful for the support and solidarity from our community and all over the country. ✊
We’re in it to win it, so we’ve stretched our relief fund goal to keep our laid off workers in this fight.
Please give what you can:

so astutely pointed out in his piece for

that has been pulling at me every day throughout this fight. I think we need to ask ourselves what real victory could look like for ALL of the embattled workers holding up America's crumbling media

After
@LBMGuild
went public with their union, CEO
@MelissaEvansLBP
began making calls to lay off 60% of staff who signed unionization cards.
Email the CEO and board asking them to rescind the layoffs and stand with local journalism 👇

I’ve been covering crime for a wire service in LA this week. I think the biggest story however, is the insane reduction in crime and traffic accidents over the last few days. To say the least, my shifts were fairly uneventful.

Don’t enable bad actors by crossing the picket line. I understand what it is to be desperate for a job in this industry, but applying for these positions will hurt us all in the long run.
The

Probably around 70 or more over the course of a year? Yeah. I just landed a job last week though and today is my first day. It took me almost exactly a year, so it’s tough but not impossible. I was extremely discouraged for a long time, but don’t give up hope.
Is it just me or should we maybe rethink a few of these...reopening plans? Because you know...mass amounts of people have been protesting for almost two weeks straight.
Why isn’t this being considered as NYC enters Phase 1?
