Now, we have to turn to other cities to read resto reviews, which is a shame cause I do really believe Toronto is on the forefront of so many cuisines and is filled with so much diverse and unique talent that makes Toronto unlike anywhere else.
@amypataki
Critical thinking in food is essential. Good criticism goes beyond stars and whether the food is good, it gives context to the cuisine, the people behind it, their motivations, how they fit into the city's culinary landscape. It makes readers smarter about their dining choices.
@amypataki
If there's a critic or food writer that has made you think about food differently, let the editors know (uh, not talking about me obvs). Their work may not get as much attention as politics or breaking news, but they're still essential in a publication.
@amypataki
Uh, this is where I would list critics/food writers that I love but I'm watching a B horror movie starring Adam West and my boyfriend is side-eyeing me for being on the computer. Someone please take over
A correction to this tweet in that Mark Pupo is still writing for TL (even though he's now EIC of Reader's Digest) and Joanne Kates had a review for TRNTO (formerly Post City) in November.

The National Post has a weekend column called "Dinner Deconstructed". It features a dish from a local Toronto restaurant & writes about it.
I'm not sure if that counts.

Antisocial media is destroying everything good about human society. Ultimately, it will completely destroy society as we know it.
But only if climate change doesn't kill us all first.

In consumeristic economies the consumer dictates a lot. My guess, you all have stopped paying the newspapers enough to maintain segments like restaurant reviews.
If it makes you feel better, your fav food critics are free to write reviews. They just won’t be paid for it.
@karonliu
Thanks for naming it. Leaving Toronto out of it, the Globe’s food coverage has declined horribly. It should look to The Guardian/Observer for what a “national” paper can do.

@JesseBrown
Can't think of a more apt technological replacement than professional restaurant critics. I'll take web reviews by real people over self appointed foodies any day.
