’s vote to become an anti-Zionist congregation is a HUGE step toward Judaism beyond Zionism in the US.
As anti-Zionist Jews grow in number — and as most synagogues remain Zionist by default — we need more religious and communal homes.
Mazel tov and thank you!
While Tzedek Chicago was already “non-Zionist,” they thought it was important to go further. “We believe this neutral term fails to honor the central anti-racist premise that structures of oppression cannot be simply ignored — on the contrary, they must be transformed."
It's SO exciting to see synagogues reject “the fusing of Judaism with political nationalism” and “the creation of an ethnic Jewish nation state in historic Palestine” — even as they “appreciate the important role of the land of Israel in Jewish tradition, liturgy, and identity.”
The synagogue's embrace of “Jewish diasporic consciousness" and refusal to "look at Israel as [Judaism's] fully realized home” will enable "rich imaginings of what the World to Come might look like” and “a deeper solidarity" with the "historically colonized and oppressed."

The decision of 18 people who don’t even meet in the basement of the church they used to meet is only a HUGE step if you are completely out of touch with reality or are grasping at any straw you can bc your “movement” is starved for any “win” no matter how insignificant.

The sentence in the Torah from which they take their name reads “Justice, justice you shall pursue, that you may live, and inherit the land which the Lord your God gave you”(Deuteronomy 16:18). You’re celebrating assimilation and self-negation. It’s embarrassing.
