@SpeakerPelosi 5/end For years, she said the US-China trade relationship should be conditioned on implementation, rather than commitments because Beijing could not be trusted. The US & the world would be so much better now if political leaders on both sides had taken her advice on China

1/Truly an end of an era & she will be missed. As we reflect on her legacy, it should be noted that @SpeakerPelosi was perhaps the original “China Hawk" recognizing that Beijing was a threat decades before it was considered a mainstream position. Some of her efforts included:

Total failure of leadership by the Trump Administration & Congress. We are giving away one of our best initiatives to get information to the Chinese people and convey the CCPs most nefarious actions to the world. It’s an absolute gift to Xi Jinping.

2/2 Canada should sanction Hong Kong & Russian entities named in the report & both the US and Canada should designate Hong Kong as a high risk jurisdiction for money laundering & illicit finance. It is long past time to get serious about cutting off Russia. Hong Kong is the key.

1/2 Today @thecfhk released a new report by @SamuelBickett showing that Hong Kong entities are funneling Canadian tech & funding to support Russia's war machine in Ukriane. This follows a similar report last year showing that Hong Kong is THE global hub for Russia, Iran, & NK

Thankful for @globeandmail's coverage of our new investigation with @TheRWCHR, which shows how #HK is funeling Canadian tech & weapons parts to #Russia for use in its war against #Ukraine. Report author @SamBickett: "The Canadian government, whether it’s for Russia or others,

...There is a deep rot at the heart of Wall Street's relationship w/China & Hong Kong. US firms are selling out our national security & the longterm competitiveness of the US economy. I applaud the work in Congress esp @ChinaSelect @CmteOnCCPDems but so much more needs to be done

Wall Street firms "draw a distinction between working w/private-sector Chinese companies in civilian businesses & helping the Chinese government." No, these are Chinese government-subsidized & supported companies designed to dominate global markets & push out any competition...

Long past time for US countermeasures to the bullying of our diplomats in China & Hong Kong. At minimum, @SecRubio should announce a formal revew of Hong Kong Economic & Trade Offices (HKETOs) in the US. Congressional committees should pass the bipartisan HKETO Certification Act

🚨Unbelievable hypocrisy in #HongKong- #Beijing is restricting @USAinHKMacau's meetings. In the US, Hong Kong's Economic & Trade Offices (HKETOs) not only lobby & conduct malign influence operations but have imposed extraordinary & unprecedented monetary bounties on US

7/7 Peace through strength has been a foundation of US foreign policy. Every time Beijing alters the status quo & the US fails to respond we look weak. And that invites more aggression and exploitation. It's time for "China Hawks" to translate their rhetoric to actual policy

Two more points: 6/7 Hong Kong Econ & Trade Offices are a relic from when HK was autonomous from China. @SecRubio @SenateForeign @HouseForeignGOP should revoke the HKETO’s diplomatic privileges. The HKETO Certification Act passed in last Congress 413-3 & @SecRubio was the author!

5/5 In Hong Kong this week, Chinese officials announced that @USAinHKMacau could not have key meetings in HongKong. So why do we still allow HK officials to lobby against US policy, spread money around & conduct malign influence activities in the US?

4/5 In response, the US should ALWAYS counter Beijing’s security-economic-diplomatic "grey zone" tactics. It can be exhausting, but EVERY action should have a US countermeasure, no matter how minor. Otherwise, Beijing sees a green light and continues taking destabilizing steps

2/5 In diplomacy and trade, Beijing slowly exploits the rules-based system to promote its agenda. The result is that Chinese gov-subsidized companies are becoming more dominant in critical industrial & tech sectors & US loses influence in multilateral & bilateral relationships

1/5 For too long, the US has allowed Beijing to slowly alter the US-China balance of power in seemingly minor ways. "Grey zone" tactics that fall short of warfare in #Taiwan & the #SouthChinaSea have provided China advantages that undermine deterrence & make conflict more likely
