“Foundational skills help readers to progress with higher level ones. That means phonemic awareness facilitates decoding and spelling. However, trying to apply phonemic awareness within decoding and spelling refines and extends that ability.”

Just saw someone recommending Ruby Payne’s work on poverty in a higher ed group, so here’s your reminder that her work isn’t based on research, she had to create her own company to publish it, & it’s based on stereotypes instead of data. Use work from real researchers instead.
