The power of tech corporations is a threat to democracy, yet governments are reluctant to take action. This refreshing book picks apart the ideology that holds them back

I agree with this. But I also worry that quite a lot (not all) of journalists havenât got the memo either - the constant âgotchaâ style makes it hard to have a frank conversation.
There will be people who think this is deeply unfair, but it canât be avoided anymore. You cannot do politics like this now - going on the radio or TV and using a clever form of words to avoid saying the thing you think will end your career. It doesnât work and it hasnât worked

Happy December, Caravan Family. Winterâs on the doorstep, and the cold has a way of reminding us what truly matters â health, clarity, and staying mission-ready. Hereâs your reminder: Dr. Waterman â (professional name Dr. Charles Lewis) â offers free consultations to Caravaners

This is a really serious story. West Midlands Police will absolutely need to explain how it ended up using misinformation and lies to justify its decisions, not least to concerned members of the Jewish community.
Law enforcement are supposed to make public order decisions on the basis of credible evidence. Whether you consider yourself pro-Palestine, pro-Israel or both, that is a reasonable expectation. Yet Netherlands police has told us the secret "intelligence" used by West Mid Police

Everyone is in favour of more housing, except where they live.
TONGHAM 400 MORE HOMES? Last week Taylor Wimpey announced proposals for a major development adjacent to the Hogs back Brewery (known as âManor Farm developmentâ), plus a further 900 homes proposed between Normandy and Flexford - just to the north of the Godalming and Ash

As I wrote in September 2024, expecting Trump to gatekeep antisemites on the right mistakes a cause for the cure:
đš Q: "Tucker Carlson had an interview with antisemite Nick Fuentes. What role should Carlson play in the conservative movement?" PRESIDENT TRUMP: "Well, I found him to be good. I mean, he said good things about me over the years. I think he's good. We've had some good

Today was the annual parade for British Jewish veterans down Whitehall. Here is my Grandpa Harold, long departed, who spent his youth dodging death in the gun carriage of a Wellington bomber. Thanks to people like him, we have it so much better today

A fine piece by @FraserNelson on the problems of state capacity, let down by the throwaway error of blaming lawyers. Lawyers arenât the problem. The law is. Only the state can reform the state. Folks shouldnât be criticised for doing their best within the constraints of a broken

Iâve long suspected that phone companies secretly love it when phones are nicked because you have to buy a new one. Now Appleâs patented Theft Aid technology makes the strategy plain

Clearly necessary. Tormenting the families of elected officials does nothing except erode democracy and deter good people from getting involved.
Exc - Activists could be jailed for six months for protesting outside MPsâ homes. Amendment laid tonight by government to beef up policing bill to stop activists targeting at private homes- but likely to draw further criticism on attacks on protest rights

30 years ago today, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated. Rabin was a visionary who brought the peace process closer to success than it has ever been. His legacy of dialogue, compromise and courage continue to inspire all those who strive for peace.

Great column, Dan.
Grateful to @thetimes for asking me to set out what I think Reeves must do in the Budget. "If Labour does not prioritise growth, if it is unwilling to give up other things that it values in its pursuit, then it is likely to end up with little at all." https://t.co/x8WjcgRFPR

Important comment on AI progress from one of the worldâs top mathematicians
I crossed an interesting threshold yesterday, which I think many other mathematicians have been crossing recently as well. In the middle of trying to prove a result, I identified a statement that looked true and that would, if true, be useful to me. 1/3

I never thought I would hear friends or family speaking of moving cities, moving schools, even moving country by reason of being Jewish and what it means. I donât think people understand how bad it is.
