Critics call @1x_tech's "Expert Mode" a sign of an unfinished product. But the company's 10-year history shows this isn't a bug—it's the core feature. We explore why 1X believes teleoperation isn't a failure of autonomy, but the very engine to create it. https://t.co/hSqGedmd0G

This clip shows 1X's core design philosophy. Instead of the heavy, rigid harmonic drives common in robotics, NEO uses a complex, tendon-driven system. You can see the layers: from metal actuators, to the "3D Lattice Polymer" mesh, to the final knit suit. This architecture is the

Two competing visions for humanoids emerged yesterday. 1. @Figure_robot: "We will not teleoperate," says CEO Brett Adcock. The focus is 100% on "true autonomy." 2. @1X_tech: Launched its NEO robot with a human-in-the-loop "Expert Mode" as a core training strategy. Read our

@MKBHD Just to clarify, all actions portrayed as AI in the video (text layovers from the AI planner) is 100% autonomous. We hope to ship a mostly fully autonomous robot in 2026, but chose to not promise anything that does not already works today. Hopefully breaking with the trend.

Figure vs. teleop. Brett Adcock says a Figure robot has been running 10-hour shifts for months—intervention rates falling, performance rising—and insists they “will not teleoperate them in market.” This lands the same day 1X opened NEO pre-orders with a human-in-the-loop

1X's launch video confirms its 'human-in-the-loop' strategy. For tasks NEO can't do autonomously, 'Expert Mode' lets a human operator 'supervise' and 'provide corrective intervention.' This is how they plan to gather training data.
