Our alternative framework: The visual system processes naturally co-occurring patterns rather than isolated features, with organization emerging from environmental statistics and computational efficiency constraints.

Key evidence against modular organisation:.* No proof from Neurophysiology or Neuroimaging. * Truly selective visual deficits are rare or nonexistent. * Deep neural networks process vision without explicit binding mechanism.

We argue (as others) that the "binding problem" (how separately processed features combine into coherent percepts) is an artifact of our theoretical assumptions rather than a real computational challenge for the brain.
