I agree with this! There's an attention to detail in the presentation of things in the US and Japan that's really nice. The experience feels more high quality even if it isn't actually.

Tipping is 100% optional in the UK, and you *cannot* tip in Japan (they will give you back your tip and be very confused). You can technically choose not to tip in the US but the livelihood of the workers kinda depends on it so. Had to remind myself too.

This is a tangent but waiters in the US walking away with my card and coming back with it + the receipt felt really strange. In the UK and Japan my card never leaves my sight, and rarely does anyone else touch it.

People had a big reaction to this huh. I know this is /somewhat/ normal in the US. but when you're not used to seeing guns at all IRL, even boxes of ammo is a culture shock. The reality that these weapons do *just exist* in the US hits you very suddenly.

Can confirm that America has so much more whimsy than the UK. Not many colorful, pastel, or cute clothes, everything is very bland. If you wear anything pastel or "childish", you get yelled at by strangers (happened to me so many times). UK feels dreary.

When I was a kid (I'm old sorry) the UK had clothes like this, and Hot Topic really reminded me of those stores. Sure enough all those stores closed down in my area :( after that the closest place to get clothes like this was to go all the way to London.

*Some* restaurants in the UK offer free refills, but outside of that you never see it, certainly not at a supermarket. In the US it seems to be available almost everywhere.
