Bravo @Janefonda for telling #SXSW2024 how #ExxonKnew in the 70s that fossil fuels would cause climate change.👏 If Exxon told the truth, "we wouldn't have the crisis we have today."💯 Instead they lied and deceived. Now we need to make them pay for the damage they've caused.

Some math: Sequoia invested $800MM into Musk’s Twitter acquisition & $200MM into FTX, before marking it down to $0. Musk says Twitter bankruptcy is possible. $1bn could evaporate. I thought only governments & nonprofits were this inefficient w/ $$$. @oscarthinks

Today, a jury did the right thing. But true justice requires much more. Michelle and I send our prayers to the Floyd family, and we stand with all those who are committed to guaranteeing every American the full measure of justice that George and so many others have been denied.

Women of color continue to lead movements of change worldwide, despite being hit hardest by the pandemic and its consequences. We need to trust their leadership, because they make history. Every time. https://t.co/8t3ZGztAkI

Nonprofits play an indispensable role, but philanthropy too has a special responsibility. We must support nonprofits, not only with our words, but our actions: unrestricted funding, multi-year support & system changes that #ReimaginePhilanthropy. https://t.co/CAa09k0BFc

Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk now own more wealth than the bottom 40% of Americans combined. As Louis Brandeis once said, “We can have democracy in this country, or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both.”

Quick summary of Oprah interview: Black woman saves her own life. White man is saved by default & realizes he and his family have been living in a toxic prison that is harming them too. Majority of his family does not come to this realization. See also: U.S. 2020 election (1/2)

Misunderstood and overlooked: Entities acting as nerve centers of #SocialChange and #SystemsChange ecosystems are routinely underfunded. We recommend a different approach to due diligence for funders, based on interviews with 20 of these organizations

Last year's rush in #philanthropy to support racial justice is moving power as well as money closer to the grass roots. @SiliconValleyCF, @SolidaireTweets and others are giving away big dollars in new, democratic ways, as @AlexDanielsCOP explains. https://t.co/kU68YcfwGF

Science and democracy are strongly interlinked - as they are both built on freedom of speech, independence, facts and transparency. If you don’t respect democracy then you probably won’t respect science. And if you don’t respect science then you probably won’t respect democracy.
