The 10 year plan is apparently being published tomorrow. I’ve been around long enough to see many of these grand policy plans come and go. They generally talk about reducing inequalities, and shifting care from hospitals to the community. I imagine this one will be similar. >>>

We want to thank @MrAndy_Carter for bringing up the issue of hospice funding at health questions yesterday and @DHSCgovuk for working with us on this. @Helen_Whately's response, that she is looking into this, is encouraging to hear.

UK hospices ‘face funding crisis and need extra £120m to pay staff’. Thank you for campaigning @Independent @hospiceuk @tobyhporter. Ludicrous comment from @DHSCgovuk. We need real engagement not bland corporate lines.

Hospices are already expecting a deficit of £186 million this year owing to rising costs and fewer donations.

Forgot to post this photo last week of me and @JaneIdeCEO at @Acevo #ACEVOfest. After a lively week it’s a great reminder of why our charity sector is here, our strength in numbers, our shared values, responsibility to speak truth to power and our focus on helping those in need.

Thank you @Gibbo4Darlo, co-chair of the APPG on Hospice & End of Life Care, for raising the issue in the #HouseOfCommons of not seeing further specific support for the #hospice sector in the spring budget and making sure this continues to be brought to attention.

THREAD: Three conversations today about the ‘new’ statutory right to specialist palliative care. Still too little awareness about what this means and it’s potential to transform palliative and end of life care. 1/5

A huge #ThankYouThursday to Tim Hyde and team from #RoyalMail who returned to our #Canterbury hospice recently to paint and decorate our staff room. This will allow staff to relax and eat meals in a fresh, calming environment as part of a renovation. 🖌️ 👷 💙 #PilgrimsHospices

Today I'm speaking at the @CSI_KCL Michal Galazka Study Day about Inequalities in End of Life Care - an important topic thrown into the spotlight during covid. We're in the midst of writing up some research on this - which you can find out more about here:

Our project explored how NHS and local authority commissioners in England measure and assure the quality of the end-of-life care and support provided to patients who die at home.

This is the most inspiring thing I have done over the past year in the face of so much which is negative. Collating examples of passionate people doing things to make a real difference for those approachng the end of life has done me good. Be inspired too!

Glad to have the opportunity along with @david3012 to write an oped for @Daily_Express about the challenges that the cost of living crisis is bringing to the UK’s adult and children’s hospices
Cake & jumble sales no longer cut it: Hospices warn they face oblivion as income streams dry up and demand a new funding settlement from the Government before burden of caring for those with terminal illnesses passes to the NHS @david3012 @tobyhporter @hospiceuk

What can we learn from the death of the #Queen? The world has watched her live through the process of #OrdinaryDying, and yet dying went unspoken, un-named. Let's notice what nobody mentioned: we all saw the Queen going through the stages of ordinary dying. A 🧵... 1/
