Neither race communism nor ethnonationism exists as an extreme in this regard, rather it is pure functionalism that is the most extreme type of governance; the reduction of entire continents to logistics and temporary austerity measures, the closing off and then the return to

The great lesson of mass immigration is that it is not enough, only total devastation can satisfy democratic man.

the way people talk in law firms is so functional, stripped of any human element. driven by intellectual functionalism, not curiosity. this is the work, this is what we’re paid, this is how the money flows. a soulless job! you get rich at the cost of curiosity & creativity

@webmasterdave @QualiaNerd @RokoMijic @wedrifid @slow_developer That assumes entanglement is ontic opposed to epistemic, no? Functionalism would be taking the latter more seriously. Binding is feeling continuous in time and this substrate-essentialism is a proposed crutch for why(not how) our indexing of time is 'specially capable/coherent'?

ever since he went away, plenty of loonies started spouting the ugliest takes uttered by man; he was a great, universal example of what not to think, and you'd find very few weirdos in agreement with the absurdities he would utter daily. A great point in favour of functionalism.

@Lasermazer @nukedwest Being able to disaggregate a model into individual agents (eg moving from two-actor model of proletarians vs capitalists into one with individual proletarian agents who behave differently). The alternative is functionalism where individuals are understood in a system's functions

Under a number of computational functionalism variants, there would be a compelling case for the Heavy-Tailed Valence Hypothesis to apply to AI systems too! (Put differently, how upset or how blissed out a base model is during training would be best described within a

Why neural networks learn at the edge of chaos When you train a neural network, parameter updates aren't normally distributed. They're heavy-tailed—rare large jumps punctuate many small adjustments. This pattern appears across MLPs, CNNs, and Transformers, across MNIST and

@thoth_iv No cultural bias detected but thanks! (I used to be, to my environments dismay, very much a computational functionalism, self-made, since the age of 11 until 21. Then I learned/reasoned out of it now also to my new environment's dismay - really, despite by strong agreeableness,

@unitas_spiritus @nukedwest Do some methodological individualist models allow for the fact that behavior is shaped by "system-supporting" ideological factors which may go against what ideal self-interest, but not pure functionalism since promulgation of those ideas shaped by behaviors of ppl with power?

@eshear Happy New Year, Emmett! Hopefully 2026 will be the year we'll see eye to eye on the phenomenal binding problem, computational functionalism, emptiness, and embodied spectral graph theory 😀 (Just finished having a long conversation with parents trying to explain to them that,

@shavil0mi @simonmaechling Confusing minimalist design with poverty is a mistake. Finns consistently rank among the richest and most developed countries by GDP per capita, wages, education, healthcare, and quality of life. Concrete apartment blocks reflect Nordic functionalism, not Belaruzkie like poverty
