Now it's time for Nicholas Taylor @NMITaylorLab to present the latest results from our lab at #cryoNET! How is the #FlagellarMotor powered and how can it change direction? The answer lies in the structural details of the stator unit elucidated by @MonicaSantiveri et al. @NNFCPR

In bacteria, the hook is a 60 nm universal joint part of the #FlagellarMotor and #Flagellum. Happy to share our new single-molecule data and novel analysis, which show that the hook can become 20x more rigid when twisted by the motor. https://t.co/2FQTN9Pry9

16/ In summary, and as @NavishWadhwa once tweeted: โ€˜A tiny motor rotates bacterial flagella, but what rotates the flagellar motor? An even tinier rotary motor!โ€™ We hope that our results provide a robust structure-based framework for many experiments to come on the #FlagellarMotor
