It's crazy how fast my time at Emory is coming to the end! Thanks to my amazing committee for all the support over the last six years. Especially @ianhealthecon who has sacrificed many hours to get me to this point. Australia here I come!

(7/8) This has implications for policymakers when predicting how hospitals respond to incentives- it's not just being nonprofit that matters, the people who are leading the hospital matter too!

(6/8) And! non-clinical exec teams respond just like for-profit hospitals on average, so this response seems to be due to non-clinical teams being more profit-driven

(5/8) Using synthetic DiD weighting & comparing hospitals w/ clinical execs to those w/out clinical execs after P4P reveals a more drastic reduction in readmission rates by non-clinical exec teams (by .3ppts). This is a meaningful magnitude compared to avg effect of HRRP (~1ppt)

(4/8) I leverage pay-for-performance (P4P) policies in the US (penalizing bad quality or rewarding good quality) to investigate whether a background in clinical training affects the way hospital exec teams respond to financial incentives on quality

(3/8) Thinking about this in the nonprofit context is important: nonprofits are a large driver of the hospital industry. Hospital policies have been targeting better value of care (⬆️quality & ⬇️cost), but it's unclear how different leaders might interact with this goal!

(2/8) We have limited knowledge about the effects of leaders in health care. I scrape executive names, positions, and titles from publicly available tax forms filled out by nonprofit firms in the US to add to our understanding of how characteristics of these leaders might matter

I'm on the market! I guess that means it's time for the long awaited JMP thread >> stay tuned until the end for a short summary video (1/8) My JMP estimates how clinical training affects hospital behavior in response to a change in financial incentives on quality
Introducing @hannalynnglenn, a Ph.D. candidate in Economics on the job market!🌟Her research shows that hospitals led by non-clinically trained executives improve quality more than those led by clinically trained ones in response to incentive changes. Learn about Hanna's work🔗⬇️

Decided to re-watch criminal minds while on the market to see if anything can scare me more than putting myself out there to economists
