On behalf of all beleaguered and aggrieved shoppers, today we finally take the step of asking customers to delete the Instacart app. The company has worked tirelessly to deprive its workers of basic accommodations and dignities necessary to continue working during a pandemic. 1/5

Instacart is well aware that it’s customers often commit fraud and mark items as missing. Yet we’re still heavily penalized by either getting blocked from seeing orders or deactivated. Watch Emma’s story here: https://t.co/HRmH6MEyRz

Today, in an outrageous move, LA City Council will consider DEREGULATING the taxi economy. If passed, it would eliminate the possibility of cooperative taxi companies AND devastate already low driver wages. https://t.co/2vI6Cy4fNt

There are many ways DoorDash can stop hurting restaurants: no longer listing restaurants that do not want to work with them, reducing commission, getting rid of extra fees Instead, they’re offering restaurants predatory cash advance loans with 10% fees. https://t.co/K3FS2ZkC4y

Eligible restaurants can use DoorDash Capital to buy equipment or pay rent, repaying the balance over time. It comes as many indies struggle

This is how it’s done! Nothing NOTHING is more powerful than worker power. If your theory of change does not include collective power, you don’t really want things to change.

BREAKING NEWS:  NYTWA wrote a legal demand letter to the TLC to raise App driver pay rates due to inflation as the TLC rules require & @NYCMayor took action.  We've secured a 5.3% pay-raise for all NYC Uber-Lyft-Via drivers! Drivers on average will earn $3800 more this year.

-the estimated pay time that’s used to calculate pay is significantly less than the amount of time it takes to fill order -no more pay increases when customers add items - Shipt is bundling more orders together for less pay This is the second pay cut during the pandemic.

Last week, @Shipt announced a new pay model. It sounded great, right? It launched this week and it’s a pay cut. The majority of shoppers aren’t actually averaging $16 - $27. Instead, many are seeing less than minimum wage. Here are some of the changes:

@fidjissimo Love my job, but this week, Instacart is not allowing me to work. They will not give me batches. Why?

Many Instacart shoppers have stopped seeing order offers. Instacart keeps suggesting that they wait at busy stores, yet that isn’t improving their ability to see orders. This is resulting in some shoppers sitting and waiting all day, unpaid, for nothing.

@ShadesOfE We are now sending push notifications when there's a batch close to your location. We recommend checking out the heat map to see what stores have a lot of orders. If you have any other questions, please send us a DM. -Ariel

@GigWC This is the 6th straight day of no batches for me in New York…after 8 months working 5 days a week of seeing them consistently so something is up and not a work from Instacart

Within the past week, many Instacart shoppers have stopped receiving order offers. Gig work is not flexible and offers no security. You can’t work whenever you want if the app isn’t offering you an order.

@Walmart when you stack with 2-6 different customers in a batch and only count it as 1 trip, this incentive is a joke! @GigWC

Some restaurants are forced to excercise their right to refuse service to the gig economy.

RIP to Justin Krumbah, an Instacart shopper. Justin was shot and killed while shopping an order yesterday. We cannot stress this enough - gig workers need occupational death benefits. https://t.co/hIFSvAAq9h

Chicago’s lawsuit against GrubHub cites a long list of deceptive practices. But this one really stands out. Grubhub used public concern about the plight of restaurants during the pandemic to rip off those restaurants even more. https://t.co/sZubn3SViL

How much money is an Instacart shopper paid to fulfill my order? Instacart’s minimum pay is $7, and that can include up to 3 orders at once. Why has service been deteriorating? Pay and working conditions have been continuously decreasing. Morale is at an all time low.

Why wasn’t my order delivered on time? Shoppers have the ability to decline orders. If an order has a poor tip, it’ll often sit for long periods of time while the orders with high tips are snatched up quickly. Shoppers can’t afford to fill your order.

Shoppers aren’t affected when I lie about missing/damaged items right? Please don’t ever do this. When customers commit fraud, shoppers can be blocked from seeing orders for weeks.

Is the shopper actually receiving my tip? Maybe. Instacart has admitted to stealing tips in the past. We suggest confirming the tip amount with your shopper. Text “I tipped x amount today” or mention it in person. Instacart fesses up and gives us our full tip when we have proof.

Why are shoppers replacing/refunding so many items? There are major food and supply shortages during the pandemic. Instacart’s catalog is also not up to date, and lists items that aren’t available. We don’t like replacing/refunding since it slows us down and reduces our tip.

We’re clearly up some misconceptions about Instacart shoppers today. Here’s a thread: Why did my shopper steal an item? They didn’t! Workers shop several orders at once, and items can easily get commingled with another order.
