On a diff note, I think the only justification to isolate Tuḷu's branch in the figure as shown there is lack of multidimensional consensus. But if one has to put it in prxmity with one of the exsting branches based on indvdual aspcts (lxcn, morph., etc.), which branch wd it be?.

What's the "Hellenic group" for Tuḷu then? South-Dravidian or South-Central-Dravidian?.

TIL .that the Attock city in Pakistan was initially named Aṭak-Banāras अटक बनारस by Mughal emperor Akbar. He named the city contrasting it with the other extreme end of the empire in Kaṭak-Banāras कटक बनारस (Cuttack in Odisha). The 1st element was from Hindwi Aṭak (obstacle)

Btw I do realize that I should've just said proto-Dr. in place of proto-S(C)Dr. I usually talk about S(C)Dr most of the time and it's a blunder out of habit.

How to educate people? More importantly, is it worth educating them?. Many people have a flat-earther level wit when it comes to Indian languages. I've only learnt the ABCs in this subject and already find them annoying.

It seems like AlphaTensor started off (2022) this trend of finding efficient matrix multiplication methods and from that point on it's like people are searching for better matrix multiplication algo, it's like you're mining to find the gem that makes your mining tool even sharper.

We discovered faster way to compute product of matrix by its transpose!. This has profound implications for data analysis, chip design, wireless communication, and LLM training!. paper: The algorithm is based on the following discovery: we can compute

Has anyone tested this use-case for #GPT4o image generation to its limits? I'm picking papers that don't come with a lot of illustrations or are very abstract/complicated to test this, but can't verify the accuracy of generated illustrations myself so try it urself & share rstls

is it possible to further analyse *aḷamb̥̬⁽ᵘ⁾ into a compound forming from *aḷ-a 'sharp' (DEDr 293) + *amb̥̬⁽ᵘ⁾ 'arrow(head)' (DEDr 178)? or is it stretching it too much?. note: I'm using [b̥̬] to mean it's either voiced or voiceless, some people use [P] but whatever.

@Concannicist @KEBuHCAH Looking it up actually brought something interesting to my notice - it is what seems to be a case of metathesis in Tulu (we know metathesis occurs in a small section of SCDr languages but seeing it in rare cases outside of that group is intriguing)

Then we have wonderful samples like Sanctuary of Truth in Pattaya, which takes best parts of both Māru-gurjara (pillars & arches) and Chinese style (roof ornamentation) & other Indic/SEAsian styles and blends it with native Thai style

We have examples of very detailed pillars and 3d-sculpting heavy features in Chinese style too - look Baofu temple in Taipei for instance.

Each comes with their own set of construction challenges. Appreciate both styles, māru-gurjara for its extremely jampacked details on every building feature - pillars, base, walls, etc.; and Tianning temple pagoda for its scale - 13 storied, ~154m high with decorated roofs.

Nvm, I was wondering if this is related to -పాక/-పాకం and got my answer. Interesting how ela is now written yala, very Telugu like. Not saying there aren't people who write yala as (y)ela. No judging here. But more importantly, is ಹಂಕ coming from Prakrit style spelling of hakka?

You may call it semantic convergence, but one can't fully disregard that [luster, beauty, light] are part of a word set that are inherently related.

This would mean I took a bad example for demonstrating the point, but the point of dialectally varying sound change, specifically in the way I described in the thread still remains as a possibility.

ಬೆಳಕು/వెలుఁగు is entry 5496 in DEDr and ಬೆಡಗು/బెడఁగు is 5472. Even Tamil has a ḍ here, additionally Telugu has a v-initial word.

I made a mistake here. బెడఁగు is unrelated to వెలుఁగు. I assumed they are. At least acc to DEDr they're different things. This came after someone pointed out Kannada has ಬೆಡಗು with a ಡ and is unrelated to ಬೆಳಕು. I was probably a bit too fast in applying ḷ > ṛ to it all.

. which clearly look like Kannada loans with /ɭ/ approximated to /ɖ/ unike the standard Telugu word veluⁿɡu where ḷ clearly became l. So far this is only touching /ɭ/ behaviour in native Telugu words. This is not about ḷ in Sanskrit loans, which I don't fully understand.n/n.
