I’m not sure I’ll ever delete my Dad’s contact info from my phone. I know that doesn’t make a ton of sense. Anyone else feel this way after losing a loved one?

“…Canada reported it had no documents on sexual abuse at St. Anne's, which operated from 1906 to 1978... In reality, the Department of Justice was sitting on some 12,000 relevant police investigation records and documents from criminal trials and civil lawsuits.”
Federal lawyers are asking an Ontario court to dismiss a group of survivors' fight to hold Canada accountable for withholding evidence of widespread severe abuse at St. Anne's Indian Residential School during class-action compensation hearings. https://t.co/dfo9qIJ149

How's everyone feeling about this platform lately? I still love to see posts of those I follow; but I'm now seeing my feed overrun with dreadfully racist, truly hateful content. Yes, I want to read all kinds of views. But it seems there's much less civility than ever. Just me?

Once again, thanks to @SeanCarleton for taking on yet another residential school denialist. A thread absolutely worth reading.
One of Murray Sinclair's teachings that I've tried to centre in my work, is to put truth before reconciliation and do the hard work to show that residential school denialists are wrong. So, since denialists are trying to misrepresent his legacy, here's how they get it wrong👇🧵

Canada has no legal duty to ensure First Nations have clean drinking water, even if Liberal ministers publicly suggest otherwise, federal lawyers say. That's the defence Ottawa is expected to mount as it fights a national class-action lawsuit this week.

While I loathe giving air to residential school denialists, I am sharing this to amplify the good work of @SeanCarleton — kinanāskomitin / chi-miigwetch thank you so much for your allyship, Sean. 🧡
I promised to do a residential school denialism wrap-up thread, debriefing and revealing the denialism we saw in September with receipts, so here we go. I hope this is helpful to share etc. Sadly, there is too much to cover, so I’ve limited it to some representative samples 🧵

My brave, brilliant friend and her son produced this short film about addiction. Justin Surette was 21 years old when he died as a result of an accidental overdose. His life goal was to save lives. Through this film, he is. Please take a few minutes to watch and share.💜
24 hours ago my family released this video. Since then it’s been viewed over 130,000 times across social media. My son Justin’s voice & our family’s message about #addiction is being heard. Thank you. 💜 https://t.co/Egm8vB5QEJ

My long summer break is winding down and it has been fantastic (including my slowdown period on social media). My mind is turning toward all the possibilities that September brings. I love summer, but I also get excited when fall begins to approach. How about you?

Am on vacation, mostly avoiding news other than Olympic coverage. I’ve been seeing the shameful vitriol (based on viral misinformation) aimed at Imane Khelif and cannot fathom how harmful this has been for her. Good article, @CBCNews.

I’m not on here much this summer, by design. But when I have been, I’ve noticed my feed has become rather unkempt, rude, and often unhinged. For that reason, I’m sharing this video of a cute groundhog happily eating clover in my backyard earlier this week. You’re welcome. ❤️ ✌🏽

Arrived back at nimāmā’s in Manitoba last night after a 10-hr drive yesterday from Saskatoon, sporting my Amachewespimawin bunny hug (aka a hoodie, you non-Saskatchewan folks!)—a gift from my cousins. Spent 11 days up north in Treaty 6, my homelands. Feels great to reconnect. ❤️

I’ve landed back in the place where my parents met and where I spent the first few months of my life. Looking forward to getting out on the water and on the land tomorrow with nimāmā. 🧡
