anyone else ever get sad thinking abt how demeter and persephone were meant to represent the bond between mother and daughter and how the violent act of marriage is passed between them but their bond still remains and modern retellings have turned demeter possessive and abusive
@fem1cent
Oh god yesterday I was literally thinking about this yesterday (did i communicate it to u thru the rf hivemind?) but i especially hate Tumblr for making that interpretation popular
@thefirestonian
the lady who wrote lore olympus will never know peace in the afterlife if i have something to say about it βοΈ now we have a whole generation of geniuses who think a story about uncle rape is feminist (ironically a lot like the hotd fandom)

The fact that Persephone's screams were so loud when Hades dragged her to the Underworld that Demeter heard them from miles away breaks my heart. Homer clearly sympathizes with the women in the Homeric Hymn better than most Greek God retelling nowadays
@fem1cent
fr, even fking ao3 gay retellings i would read as a kid, Demeter was portrayed as an irrational hag jealous of her child's beauty; i think a retelling that explores demeter's own experience w marriage and her seeking to protect persephone from the trauma would be v. interesting!
