My @remarkablepaper tablet ceased working after a few months. When I brought it up with them, naively hoping they would swiftly replace it, I was met repeatedly with completely unhelpful answers and

This headline could have run on any day since last December. Israeli “senior defense officials” are only proclaiming it now because the Biden-Harris admin has dropped its cynical ceasefire charade and greenlit this titanic crime in the name of shaping a “new Middle East.”
Netanyahu's government is not seeking to revive hostage talks and the political leadership is pushing for the gradual annexation of large parts of the Gaza Strip, senior defense officials tell Haaretz https://t.co/h57zDB1X5F

Thx @rebelbookclub. Good to see my musings on mobility included here with good old @paragkhanna. Would be fun to do one of these together in London, Paris or better still: Athens
Our topic for May 2024 is MIGRATION. We're focusing on the book's that look forward as well as back, and how migration might be part of the answer to many of our great challenges. @WanderingGaia

Dear @LaraMarlowe just came across a piece you wrote almost 30 years ago about my friend Ali Habib, whom i had no idea was born Daniel Huguet. Could we connect via DM?

My father died on July 22 of this year. It was unexpected. The sense of loss was staggering. After the initial shock, I began to be able to process the grief. Until @BankofAmerica turned the grieving process into an absolute nightmare 1/14

Grateful @blcklphnt has found a home in Copenhagen. And to have engaged with a critical, serious, thoughtful journalist

This thread from my friend Felix reminds us that banks are never on your side, no matter how much money they spend on advertising & goodwill

At this stage, I decided I did not want to bank with @BankofAmerica. I proceeded to access my account using online banking and to wire most of the funds to my French and British bank accounts. Here’s where it becomes next level appalling and frankly, insane 11/14

As this point you may think someone called me to apologise. Nothing of the sort. I was not even informed that my bank account had been reopened. I was just told by the 35th person I spoke to when I called that the funds "were on the account".This was last Wednesday (Oct 22) 10/14

Finally, after 3 weeks of incredibly frustrating, indeed debilitating conversations, the fraud department of @BankofAmerica apparently ascertained it had made a mistake. I say apparently because I was informed that the funds "appeared" to have been credited to "the account" 9/14

In the process, I listened to an estimated 50 hours of jazz while being bounced around from one @BankofAmerica representative to the next and one supervisor to the next. I was told at least 15 different things by the 34 representatives. I flew back to Europe 8/14

Each one of them had me repeat at length every detail of the story, from my father’s death, the fact that the check for his life insurance had been sent to my French address, which was obviously different from my US address, etc., etc. 34 different times 7/14

I was told that the check appeared to have been “altered” (this was a Citibank check from the insurer, MetLife) and that my account “had been sent to closure”. In the ensuing 3 weeks, I spoke to 34 different Bank of America representatives over the phone 6/14
