I can't believe I've seen some full adults on here pouting that Animal Crossing is releasing next year when it means a better game and healthy work environment for Nintendo employees. Crunch culture needs to stop and I'm glad Nintendo goes out of their way to be an example.
I think I've posted something like this before but if you're looking to design BGs I highly recommend looking at miniatures/dollhouses! The way things are proportioned to be visually legible at that scale translates beautifully to designing for animation 👍
Internet memes about this design are relatively harmless compared to forcing employees to rework the bulk of this movie before November. This is a scary precedent to set for entertainment labor 😬

Itching to try new animation jobs in 2022- visdev, boards or BG paint!
I've been making a presentation about how I plan and execute personal projects- here's some slides about timing methods I find helpful for staying on task that you might also find helpful! ⌛️
Somehow ended up on a live feed of bears at a waterfall in Alaska and the chat is full of regulars who know the bears by name, everyone is very proud of Otis who just caught a fish
I had a dream last night that Nintendo made a Waluigi game and it was a skiing game. When asked why, Nintendo reps said "I mean, that's what he wanted to do"
I keep a lot of journals so to quickly know which is which I'll freehand draw some plants or a design on the cover- happy with this chamomile cover I did today 🌼

Did a portfolio review for a recent grad so I'll pass on advice-
-Look at portfolios of people who have a job you'd like
-Don't put anything in your portfolio you hated making
-Fanart is fine
-Take a theme (ie a book you like) and do 6-8 pieces as if it's your job (ie bg design)
Anime where the protagonist's mother has a side ponytail and he begs her to change her hairstyle bc he knows the trope & she says "teehee, this is how I had my hair when I met your father, he loved it!", she's constantly in near death situations & completely oblivious
People who push AI image generation as 'art' are incurious, uncritical and artless in every way. I can't engage on the topic of art-making with someone who hates it. I can't explain to someone so numb to creativity why AI image generation is deeply repulsive.
My best creative advice for making personal projects less overwhelming:
Underpromise and overdeliver- I live by this! Any ideas I have I scale back to their core element so I deliver a concise and considered smaller thing instead of a sprawling, disorganized larger thing. 1/?
Hey, young artists doing commissions........ Don't charge in the $10-20 range, especially for things in color???? Value your time! I'm not saying that as a broad concept I'm saying put a realistic pricetag on what your time is worth. For custom art? More than $20.
When industry creeps are protected as "irreplaceable talent" the implication is their victims are "replaceable talent"- but they are only 'irreplaceable' because people invested in them, cared about their career. Now is the time to invest elsewhere, in diverse and good people.
Amphibia season 3 premieres this Saturday! I hope you enjoy watching it as much as we all enjoyed making it, I got to design some very fun backgrounds💙
