Oregon Smash has a great community, but competively there are so many awful mindsets. Specifically from mid to top level.
It doesn't feel like people really care about improving. It feels like people only care about short term results. To me, it's sad because it stunts the-
-growth of the whole scene.
Like, it doesn't feel like we're trying to figure each other out. It just feels like we're hoping shit works enough to get us the W.
I don't really get how we can improve if people just play, hope something works, and quit before getting figured out
Idk, I've been thinking about this a lot recently and it just shows me why we've always been stuck as a region and inconsistent.
Yes, I'm subtweeting like half the scene rn. We suck.
@everest_roy
I think in general Oregon needs more infastructure to encourage growth. OCBL was super sick for the short time I was in it because it felt like it brought the community together more
@SOSAquatic
I think that's more of a community building thing than a mentality thing. I'm def all for doing things to build the community, but competitively we need a mass change in all our mindsets.
@everest_roy
It feels like the whole scene is in a state of defense trying to "hold their spot" playing to not lose rather then playing to win nobody feels like they're shooting for higher but to just hold the position they are at now
@Gixel8
It's not exactly that it's more that people are looking way too short termed with their goals. Obv I don't want to force anyone to play something they hate but it's detrimental to the scene if people just try for like a few seasons then quit/don't try anymore.
@everest_roy
Bro this game is brutal. I don’t know if it’s bad mindset or just being human. Personally I get very frustrated when I underperform bc I’m one of very few players in our scene who practices tech, spends time in training, does vod reviews and watches top players almost every day.
@JnS_Draymond
It takes awhile for everyone, correct me if I'm wrong but it feels like you started seriously grinding during quarantine? There's def a separation of exp for sure.
That said, you've improved a LOT but the wall you're at is super common. I think you'll break out soon tho
@everest_roy
It's pretty much always been this way. Most of the time how good you are in Oregon has very little to do with how well you adapt to the opposition and just how good you are at your gameplay. It sucks and it'd be sick af if it changed.
@everest_roy
Defs agree, I think people especially don’t know how to lose effectively you know what I mean? I really appreciate and respect players like Omen and Adam just because I feel like they really have strong mentality win or lose
@UndertaleKevin
I def agree with this and I know it can be really hard. I had to try really hard to approach this game from a growth mindset > results based.
I think other scenes don't have mindsets that are sustainable but do better because they're willing to grind way harder.
@everest_roy
As someone just now getting into the scene for Oregon and finally finding a character I feel comfortable with. All I want to do is improve. I may not become the best, but I want to be come a real threat/challenge at some point for people.
@everest_roy
People care way too much about PR placements and PR wins
From what I’ve seen (not very much) most people just don’t have the right competitive mindset in Oregon
A good example for us is Captain L, he lost a million sets vs top PR but kept grinding and eventually won
