Our #MarsExpress spots a strange shape on Mars, formed as a space rock collided with the planet's dusty surface. It's known as a 'butterfly crater' but we see a walnut, an insect, the Eye of Sauron, or perhaps a moth... what do you think? More info and images ๐Ÿ‘‰

@esascience I think it merely looks like something that hit the planet at an oblique angle.

@esascience I donโ€™t see a butterfly in the crater itself, but maybe in the ejecta blanket? The projectile might have impacted at an oblique angle. This is an awesome 360 of the crater!

@esascience When the crater becomes vertically oval (20 seconds of that video), I see a lion standing, its mane located between 10 and 11 o'clock, looking behind it. Pareidolia ๐Ÿ˜

@esascience "what do you think?" Good of you to ask, for I truly believe in what Prof. Loeb emphasised in here the other day. Even without ๐Ÿ”ญ telescopes, a large audience knows facts many scientists don't. cc @GalileoProject1 1/2 Science of the People and 3I/ATLAS https://t.co/5OlwEA6Gkt

@esascience This one is interesting: a crater that was covered by sediments; the young butterfly impact shifted its filling, and the crater edges became visible again.
