I know lot of folks are using signal as tool of communication. And you need a valid phone number to register. Don't use a number that is directly linked to you. Buy a sim use it to register and throw it away, then you technically have a private signal account.
I also want to mention that Signal is also funded by US Government. It won't protect you from the feds. Be aware of it always when trying to pass infos
Moxie Marlinspike (co-founder) received fed money through Radio Free Asia to develop app to do color-revolution overseas. If you think that this app is safe because Snowden says he uses it, I got a bridge to sell.

I think Element and Matrix are somewhat more secure as they are decentralized. Secure messaging isn't really my domain but I've used them a few times and while clunky I think they're a step forward from Signal. Matrix having a self-hosting option is pretty cool.
@cometflesh
I honestly haven't heard much about them. It's just very dangerous how signal is pushed around in organizing spaces without any inspection. Again these apps like VPN can't be trusted (also our devices). But since we are using it, we need to treat them as what they are
@HueroProfe
Interesting, do you have any details how prisoners in the US are monitored on their social media apps? I know every calls are monitored and used to prosecute in some states.
@lenin_pilled
You can tell people to google “SMS burner” and use any of those sites to use a temporary phone numbers for free or there’s a really good app that gives fake numbers to sign up for things called “PingMe”.
