It’s literally a way to break your barriers down & make you do extra work (for free if they can get you to do it). It’s also why they do the whole “think about your coworkers” bullshit too.
They’ve been doing it ever since workers got more tangible rights.

Ever since it became illegal & “bad PR” with customers to force employees to work for free & take abuse or get fired. That’s when they started doing the whole sympathy & ego thing.
That’s why they say shit like “think about your coworkers before you use your PTO” etc.

I once told my manager I was using my vacation time to go a BBQ & to Six Flags. He asked "What about work?". I respond "It'll be here when I get back".
