We have given up on languages in Britain. One of the consequences of this is that people think once routine competence in another European language is awe-inspiring. I’m sure this reporter is great. But you don’t need to be a genius to speak other European languages.
As an English bloke who can barely speak English, this is one of hte most impressive interviews I've ever seen.. Unreal stuff, @alexaljoe. 👏

Great to be back at @edskeptics last night, with a great talk from @PeterHillen and @heyman_inga about the use of naloxene by @PoliceScotland. In a week that has felt dark it was good to focus on a positive intervention and how research can make a difference in our communities.

If the rumours are right and the UK, almost unilaterally given current global trends, cuts R&D funding at this critical moment, we're going to drift even further behind in economic growth, soft power, education, science, research, engineering, you name it .....
We put innovation at the core of Europe’s growth. This week, we're taking stock of the progress in our R&I ecosystem, highlighting where further work is needed: -Prioritising investments and reforms -Improving access to excellence -Translating results into economic impact
