@Darren_Mooney I think when I've seen it it's mostly aspec folks who are venting about what they see as the ubiquity of sexuality in popular culture, but like... I cannot stress enough how much it is not, in fact, cool and based to resurrect the Hays Code.

@Darren_Mooney Oh while we're talking about this I absolutely *loathe* how some (admittedly young and naive, so hopefully they'll grow out of it) segments of the queer community seem to earnestly believe the Hays Code was cool and a Good Idea actually.

I love many movies from the Golden Age of Hollywood, but there is a very clear interruption of the evolution of American storytelling from the late twenties and early thirties to late sixties and early seventies. And it still shapes how a lot of people talk about art.

I would also point out that the Hays Code *did* do untold damage to American popular culture, ostracizing the voices of women and minorities, stripping out a lot of basic human interactions from the artform, and imposing a simplistic moral framework.

The film “Morocco”, released in 1930, four years before the code, featured a lesbian kiss and earned four Oscar nominations. Don’t believe this revisionism. The Code set back American cinema by decades.

@lucia_fasano People are always talking about a film having "cultural impact" because of the alleged millions/billions of streams that company claims they get, but I'll tell you none of that means shit to me when crew and cast are over worked, underpaid, lied to, abused, and stolen from.
